Why Users Will not Flock to WS 2012 Essentials

Paul Thurrott Pic

Paul Thurrott gives us his opinion on WHS 2011 and Windows Server 2012 Essentials and why he thinks average consumers or very small businesses will not flock to Microsoft’s latest solution:

…I don’t think average consumers or very small businesses will flock to this solution any more than they did to WHS. Though inexpensive by Windows Server standards (about $450 per license), it’s a lot more expensive than WHS, which can be had for under $100 these days. Frankly, we’ve reached the point where even a super-simple Server might simply be too much.

Understanding Windows 8 Storage Spaces

Blogger Tim Anderson helps us understand Windows 8 Storage Spaces, a confusing but powerful new feature in Microsoft’s next operating system:

“Storage Spaces is a way of virtualising disk drives. You manage physical drives in a pool of storage, and allocate virtual drives from that pool. The virtual drives can be bigger than the actual space available; this is called “thin provisioning”. When you are running out of physical space, you can add additional drives.”

Manage Storage Spaces

Its a great read on a sometimes confusing feature.
