Restoring when no Network Drivers have been Installed Before

Microsoft employee Scott Hanselman explains how he recovered a PC by using the Windows Home Server recovery CD although it hadn’t got network drivers installed.

Since the PC being recovered was only used on a dial-up connection network drivers had never been installed so naturally the restore process stopped in its tracks. But by using a USB stick and a trip to Dell,s support site things were back on normal.

You can read Scott’s adventures here.

For single hard drive restores, just use the client restore option, its much easier and always works. (attach your hard dirve via usb dock to any WHS client PC, go to programs/WHS/client restore and away you go) With my client raid, I have to use the restore CD and drivers on usb.
