Best Practices Analyzer September Update for Windows Server

For those of you running either Small Business Server 2011 Essentials or Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials (as well as Small Business Server 2011 Standard Edition) you will be notified of an update to the Best Practices Analyzer.

BPA September Update

The September update to the Windows Server Solutions BPA adds 59 new rules. Currently the total number of checks per SKU are:

Small Business Server 2011 Essentials – 78
Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials – 30

RC2 of DVBLink is now available.

With this software you can install tuner cards in your WHS which then become network aware allowing you to view the content on your Media Center PC.

Here is what has been new and fixed since RC1:

General
– Fixed: DVBLink sources/Connect server cannot be uninstalled if DVBLink server was uninstalled before them
– Fixed: Incorrect handling of <previously-shown> and <premiere> flags in xmltv
– Added: Categories to xmltv channels based on xmltv file name

DVBLink Connect Server
– Fixed: DVBLink server crash when playback of non-DVBLink channel is started from the DVBLink client
– Fixed: PlayReady error on DVBLink MediaCenter client when client is woken up from standby
– Fixed: DLNA server hangs on DVBLink server stop (server will stop correctly although DLNA server will not function)
– Fixed: IPhone/IPad cannot play HD channels

– Fixed: Stuttering playback of RTL4 (HD), TV2 Nyhetskanalen and TV4 Sport channels
– Fixed: Weak signal tuner message in MediaCenter when DVBLink configuration page is opened or playback is started on another tuner
– Fixed: High CPU load (compared to v3) on some encrypted and HD channels
– Fixed: DVBLink server crashes in tvsource.dll or tvsource_info.dll when system has more than 8 tuners

TwonkyServer for Windows Home Server users has had an update.

The media server for WHS has been updated to version 6.0.37 which fixes several sync-related issues, and can be downloaded from here.

Drive Bender RC1 Coming Tuesday Oct 4th

Drive Bender have announced on Twitter that Release Candidate 1 (1.2.0.0) is in final internal testing and come rain, hail or shine it will land on Tuesday, October 4th.

This is excellent news and is great to see Drive Bender steadily moving forward with their Drive Extender replacement add-in.

Add-In: StableBit DrivePool Build 3955

If you were experiencing a Fast I/O issue when using StableBit DrivePool, then a fix has been posted in build 3955.

Version 1.0.0.3955 change log:

  • [D] Fixed Fast I/O issue that was causing system crashes. (As reported: uTorrent, iTunes on Mac, etc…)
  • [D] Update current file position after successful Fast I/O call

My Movies for Windows Home Server 2011 has been updated to 2.10 Pre Release 4.

Here is their change log for this latest update:

  • Fix: If a backup database failed, it could be left in an invalid state, which could give issues.
  • Fix: Transcoder service had wrong version set, which could cause problems with upgrades.
  • Fix: Conversion jobs with error kept looping for ever.
  • Fix: Video Converter High Profile changed for support of files larger than 4GB.
  • Fix: Filenames from conversion xml profiles was not always used in naming of output file.
  • Fix: Mismatch in comparison when searching for shares on HWS2011 server.
  • Fix: Definition cleanup at start of general service is now in own thread.
  • Fix: Video converter service did not set to not autostart when you asked it to.
