Drive Bender has been updated to version 2.3.9.0 with many fixes and updates:

  • [u] Improved overall start up performance when one or more drives have not connected.
  • [u] Add registry value to override for email “sender”, under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Division-M\Drive Bender” as a new string value “Email From Override”.
  • [b] When deleting a pool under the Drive Bender Manager, the confirmation dialog is displaying the wrong pool.
  • [b] Pool does not start if all drives timeout during validation check.
  • [b] Issue with processing cache folder, it seems it is scanning the System Volume Information folder.
  • [b] On the activate license dialog, the intro text is being covered up.
  • [b] The SMART service starts to spike CPU usage after waking up from a sleep state.
  • [u] Improved the way the landing zone is being cleared.
  • [u] Add the drive name to the audit CSV log.
  • [b] When performing a folder scan, some users are receiving a recursive folder warnings.
  • [b] Files stored on the pool cannot be opened with a metro application under Windows 10.
  • [b] Folder images are not showing up under Windows 10.
  • [e] Improvements have been made to better calculate the slack space being used on a pool, which will result in a more accurate “non pool used” value.
  • [e] With multiple pools, if one pool is disconnected (aka drives not connected), other pool is taking 30 minutes to come on line.

Client Connector for Windows 10 to connect to WS2012 R2 Essentials Released

Windows Server Essentials Connector for Windows Server 2012 R2

We informed you last week that the client connector software for Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 would be available some time soon and yesterday Microsoft releeased versions for both x64 and x86 versions of windows 10.

For x64 bit Windows 10 Client download it from here.

For x86 bit Windows 10 Client download it form here.

Note:

– The Client Connector needs to be manually downloaded and installed on the Windows 10 Client OS. Once the installation is completed follow the steps listed below,
– Click on Start, All Apps

– Scroll down till “Windows Server Essentials”, expand and run “Windows Server Essentials Connector Configuration Wizard”.

This is a known issue and the fix on the server is being targeted to be released tentatively in October 2015, then there will be no user intervention required, all the downloading, installation and configuration will be automatically carried out.

Add-In: Lights-Out v1.6.0 Build 2375

Lights-Out version 1.6.0 has been released with full Windows 10 support.

The add-in from Green-IT now supports Windows 10 as client on Windows Server Essentials as well as on desktop server operating systems, and also has the following bug fixes too:

  • Overflow issue if more than 10 network cards are in use
  • Tooltips longer as 64 characters
  • Service stops under high CPU load

  • Fixed: Overflow issue if clients has 10 or more network interfaces
  • Fixed: Tooltip exceeds 64 characters on localized versions

  • Fixed: Problems with Lights-Out client UI and connected standby (e.g. Surface 3 Pro)
  • Fixed: Automatic wake-up after network change
  • Fixed: Webservice not working under low memory condition on server
  • Added: Workaround for unsupported MAC OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) on WHS/WSE
  • Added: Support for Windows 10
  • Added: Support for Windows Server Technical Preview 2 (2016)
  • Added: New icon set for Windows Server Essentials 2012 (R2)

Known issues

  • Resizing the Dashboard to the smallest possible window size creates a distorted Status sub-tab. Workaround: resize the Dashboard
  • You can’t load an existing Windows Home Server v1 Lights-Out license into this version. Lights-Out for Windows Server 2012 (R2) Essentials, Small Business Server 2011 Essentials and Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials or Windows Home Server 2011 requires a new license file.
  • Client GUI application is not started automatically after first client push installation. Workaround: Run via Start->All Programs->Startup, Lights-Out Client or log off and log on again.

Add-In: Advanced Admin Console v1.5.6

Advanced Admin Console has been updated to version 1.5.6 which is a maintenance release.

In addition to two minor fixes, the developer has also enabled the AddIn to run on Windows Server Technical Preview.

The following changes have been made since version 1.5.3:

  • FIXED: The Dashboard crashed when AAC was installed on Windows Server 10 Preview
  • FIXED: Clicking on a web or intranet favorite would cause the web browser tab navigate to the defined home page instead of the favorite target if the web browser tab hadn’t been activated before.
  • FIXED: Users were unable to purchase a license when the Dashboard was run from Remote Web Access.

Client Connector Availability for WHS and Server Essentials

Microsoft have released details on client connector availability for, amongst others:

  • WHS2011
  • Windows Server Essentials 2012
  • Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2

As the recap to their article the client connector for:

  • WHS2011 is working on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10
  • Windows Server Essentials 2012 is working on windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10

BUT

For Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 all is working fine apart from:

  • Client Backup restore is working on windows 7 and windows 8 once the client hotfix is installed.
  • The client connector is due to be released on Microsofts Download Center sometime in the future.
