Asus WebStorage Add-In Available to All

The Asus TS  mini Home Server includes an add-in for backing up its shared folders online, and the good news is that the Asus WebStorage add-in is available and can be installed on any Windows Home Server – Not just the Asus.

ASUS WebStorage - My Web Backup

The add-in allows you to backup data from your Home Server to ASUS WebStorage as well as synchronize data between your PC and Home Server by Internet, and all for just under $40 (£30) for 1 year of unlimited webstorage.

But if you would like to try it out without purchasing then you can sign up for a free 1GB account.

Sounds good, and the only limitation to the paid/free service is that you can only download upto 5000MB per day but everything uploaded is protected by 128-bit AES encryption.

More details are available from here.

Thanks to HomeServerLand for bringing this add-in (for non Asus TS mini owners) to our attention.

Looks likes good idea, but “Automatically back up … to externaM storage” – “externaM” – really? If this is an indication of the quality of the product, I think I’ll wait for some reviews :-/

Besides, it’s also not properly endorsed by Asus in any other measure than name – it certainly doesn’t carry the Asus logo. A company called eCareme run it.

Does anyone know of this company’s reputation?

I’m currently subscribed to the unlimited plan – so I paid the 40/year. I can attest that it was backing up my files – but it seemed to be doing that slowly and the software was inconsistent in letting me know what was really backed up.

I’m hoping for a software update.

I also have it and just saw that they updated it on 5/6/2010 to a new version. Running it on a version 3.0 EX470 with 2GB of RAM and updated New Orleans processor – seems to work (actually already saved me once with my 9GB of photos – whews! And you can see files from the web site if the Home server dies completely, so you don’t need to restore to get access to the files.

I think I got the $69 for two years option – even if it just keeps my photos, that’s a smokin’ deal.
