The Photos app will not display content from Windows 7 or WHS 2011 based machines that is shared through a homegroup

I found recently that setting the pictures folders to always available offline makes them show up in the ‘Metro’ Photos app!

That’s a great solution, as long as you have enough space and bandwidth to make offline storage available. Unfortunately for me my tablet has less than 30G available and I have more than 50G of photos.

Funny that the Music app lets you see & play music files on a WHS 2011 server, and the Videos app lets you see and play videos from WHS.

This issue with the Photo App has been known about for some time. What is really irritating is that the Microsoft team responsible claim that there are “technical issues” preventing them from fixing it.

Strange, then, that “technical issues” don’t seem to be a problem for the other Media Apps, or for traditional Desktop Media Apps.
