I am not happy about it at all, but stating what I believe is going to happen knowing who Microsoft operates. It seems that THE ONLY thing that they are concentrating on today is to push the new phone OS. Don't you wonder that there is practically NO new information on plans as far as WHS is concerned? I hope that there is a home server product based on new Windows 8 platform, otherwise you are write, there is no reason to stick with MS;and NFS will do just fine.

Ernie, don’t get me wrong. If MS now kills the WHS line of products because the ordinary W8 Client already include this feature, who will miss it?WHS did more than that, you might say. Yes, of course. But when it comes to backups, the WHS backup really isnt as good as affordable off-site cloud backup that is now emerging.Remove those two features, and then WHS is only a file server with trimmings.Ernie

Well, I beg to differ. Notice that any Microsoft sites being run by developers are virtually dead. The latest posts are at least 2 years old. The big wigs from Microsoft never mention Windows Home server lately (last 2 years). I wouldn't be surprised that all developers are either gone or assigned to new projects. I hope I am wrong, but things don't look good.

What next version of WHS?
