  1. I like to install Smartdefrag, Imgburn (because I archive to DVD) and extractnow. All free and fantastic.

  2. kromseesall says:

I install Windows Live Mesh, which goes on all my PC’s. Especially with Win 7 Home Premium not supporting RDP. Also Any DVD HD.

  3. Jordan says:

PerfectDisk will make my WHS just perfect.

  4. sjkeegs says:

Since I’ve just recently started using WHS, I’ve been a bit reluctant to install additional software.

Things that are on the list that may go there include perfectDisk, LiveMesh.

I’d like to put an antivirus on there, but I’m not sure which one yet. I’ve tried McAfee previously on other computers, and didn’t like it, so it has not been installed on the WHS computer from HP yet.

  5. Craig says:

I have quite a bit of storage on my home server and would love to have Perfect Disk “maximize My streaming media performance”.

  6. Heaphus says:

My favorite software, that isn’t an add-in, is Orb. Works beautifully for consuming my stored media while away from home.

  7. Jeff says:

I use IDrive to do a remote backup of my most critical documents (family pictures) every night. I like having the offsite copy in case the worst case scenario happened, ie comet destroying the house, zombies attacking and eating the server etc.

  8. John Bargo says:

PerfectDisk 10 for Windows Home Server completely defrags my virtual drives (all files and metadata) and consolidates free space in just one pass – no matter how large or fragmented the system.

  9. Blaine D. says:

For me, I’ve loaded the Zune software on the server which centralizes all the synching of added music/podcasts/etc.

  10. Kilian Martin says:

My favorite software for the HS is the new iTunes 9! The new home sharing feature is just perfect for my hole setup.

  11. Kilian Martin says:

I forgot to mention that you have to google a bit to find a way to install it on your WHS cause Apple ended the iTunes support for Windows Server 2003 since iTunes 8.1 or something.

  12. roger stafford says:

My favorite software for my whs is uTorrent.

  13. Ryan says:

I installed Hamachi X. I allows me to access to my server while away. Much better than the web based solution offered with WHS.

  14. Regelos says:

My Favorite Software is Utorrent just drop a torrent in a directory and it takes care of the rest!

  15. Holt says:

Symantec AntiVirus for Windows Server 2003 installed and seems to work for me. It’s only console access though. It seems to work but I’ve not been thowing virus’ at it just to test.

  16. MiguelF says:

    TVersity.

Love to be able to have this application on the machine, and stream a variety of items (music, movies) to my wii and xbox360.

  17. sic0048 says:

  18. sic0048 says:

I guess I should leave more details on how I use it….

Control my A/V system via touchscreens, Nokia wireless internet tablets, and IR remote controls. I can watch any source on any/all TVs. Includes whole house audio system, SageTV DVR system, Sony mega changer DVD player, Wii, Onkyo 7.1 Home Theater system, ripped media on my WHS, etc, etc.

I can announce missed calls, control the HVAC and lights, etc when I come home. I can announce caller ID information when calls come in. Announce specific weather alerts (like tornado warning) when they occur. Control sprinkler system based on current weather. Automate lighting system.

I’m sure there are other things I am forgetting about.

  19. Jorge says:

    Live Mesh

It allow me to quick sync son files between my server and Home and allow me to get access to my server remotely

  20. Diehard says:

My favorite is Meta Browser (running as a service) with the utorrent addin. Together they rename and organise my TV shows for HP`s Video Converter software on my EX47x. Serves the videos nicely to my W7 MCE Media Browser.

I`ve also installed Zune & SharePoint Server, AD,CCleaner,Revo Uninstaller, blah, blah, blah.

  21. Michael says:

My plan is to Install iTunes and use the new sharing functionally to create a central repository on the WHS and allows my other PC’s just to sync the music to thier albums they care about. This will keep me from sharing a single itunes library with my wife and keep all the music installed on my server.

  22. mike says:

My most favorite non addon is uTorrent.

  23. Phil says:

I use “hamachi” on my WHS and make one big virtual network with my laptops and work machine. This allows me seamless access to all of my WHS features regardless of where I am without having to mess with trying to get VPN’s to work through others firewalls. Works great!

  24. Huy Do says:

I installed ActiveHome Pro and its SDK on my HP MSS and uses it to control all my X10 devices. I wrote a small ASP page and adds it to the Home Server webpage so I can control from the web.

  25. Dan Morgan says:

    Seamless integration with WHS Console
I record and delete 15 shows per week so the frags are all over the place.

  26. Gilson says:

So far I have only installed uTorrent.

  27. welchwerks says:

its new, its informative, it looks grea,t its, its, can it be… P80

I have already found this tool to be a manditory install on my system.
hoping to see it as an add-in some day

  28. Marc Brooks says:

Microsoft Live Sync (which keeps my Music synced between my laptop and the WHS machine).
