Add-In: AutoExit 2008 for Windows Home Server

After being in beta for the last few months, today sees the launch of the final version of AutoExit 2008 for Windows Home Server.

This add-in can be used to shut down and reboot machines in your home network. Wake On Lan is also supported, enabling you to easily boot up machines remotely. These actions can be executed per machine or for all machines.

Other handy features are the ability to send messages to the different machines, configuring the timeout/message and support for opening a Remote Desktop session to the remote machines and to the server.

Statistics are kept of all actions, so that a detailed trace can be viewed on when certain actions were executed.

Please make sure that you put the limitations per OS.

such as you cannot send messages to Vista only to XP.
shutdown is a crap shoot with Vista, I rarely see it work.
And I have two machine that will wake VIA another program but Auto will not wake them.
Remote desktop is easy enough to accomplish VIA the web page VIA WHS so no need for that one.
It would be an awesome program to get the kids attentions if it could send messages to Vista machines.

I personally uninstalled it as I can send a WOL packet with a desktop utility in WHS, and since I run only Vista there is no need since I cannot send messages to the Vista machines.

if I am wrong about any of this please correct me, but in Beta it was my least used addon.

    Hi there,

    A few comments…
In the final release you get a message when you try to send a message to a Vista machine.
We have investigated a few ways of sending messages but Microsoft has completely removed this functionality from Vista. :-/

We haven’t had any complaints about problems with shutting down or WOL, if you can provide us with more details on what the problem is, please go here: http://www.asoft-ware.com/prod_feedback.php

    Best Regards,
    Mike

    Hi guys,

In search for a tool that makes it possible to remotely shut down and reboot my home network machines in an easy and reliable way, I ran into this. So decided to give it a try and downloaded it… Using it now for ’bout a day, have to admit that it’s already proven really handy for me! Also the messaging service is a feature I’ll use often, I think. Can only recommend this tool. Credits to the author(s)!

the WOL issue was resolved with an updated BIOS, but still I can RD to the server to do a WOL. It’s just right now having one extra icon in the task bar to make shortcuts for RD or WOL is not need especially since I rarely do those things. Now if the Vista messaging worked then I would install it and use it, but for now it just doesn’t carry enough functionality to warrent space taken on the already short icon bar in WHS.

  8. Hi reddragon72,
I know what you mean, my short icon bar scrolls, what seems like eternity.
